Feeling overwhelmed by clutter throughout your home? It’s common in today’s busy lifestyle, where our living spaces often become filled with things accumulated over time. By implementing a few simple yet powerful techniques, you can transform clutter into calm and create a space that nurtures both functionality and relaxation. Here are my five must-know tips to a more organized home.
#1: Define Your Ideal Living Space
Consider how you want to live and feel in your home, then get started. Think and take notes on how you utilize each space on a daily basis, and how you want it to feel. Remember, creating a daily organized space requires a mindset shift and the formation of new habits. Start thinking of organization as a lifestyle rather than just a weekend project.

#2: Prepare and Sort
Your home didn’t become disorganized overnight. Most clutter accumulates over time out of habit. To start organizing, you need to declutter the space first. How to Sort: grab five (8×11) pieces of paper and label them: KEEP, DONATE, TOSS, RECYCLE, OTHER SPACE. Sort through each item in your space, placing them into the appropriate piles. Purge anything that doesn’t belong and get rid of unnecessary items.
#3: Clean the Space
Once you’ve sorted through all the items, clean the space before organizing it. This means cleaning items such as: windows, blinds, dusting surfaces, wiping down doors, baseboards, doorknobs, and switch plates, as well as vacuuming and mopping floors.
#4: Measure, Plan, Purchase
Use a measuring tape and notepad to plan out how you want the space to function. Consider how you’ll organize items, I recommend creating product categories. Measure the width, length and depth of drawers, cabinets, door openings etc, to ensure that the storage solutions you purchase will solve your clutter issues. Keep things simple by sticking to just a few different products per space. Simplicity allows for both aesthetic appeal and functionality.
#5: Organize
Once you have a solid storage plan, begin organizing and be sure to label bins and containers. This step is crucial as it ensures you can easily find the items you’ve stored.
I hope these tips and list of essentials motivate you to organize your home and feel less stressed. If you want a jumpstart on decluttering your home, you can
